InspireSpace: Reimagining Spaces for Creative Projects
Community Partner Award, First Place: $20,000

Students from the National Honor Society developed the InspireSpace project to transform a traditional classroom at the Duckery School into a flexible, multi-functional space for creative and hands-on learning. The project also grew to include the National Society of Black Engineers and the Art Club. Throughout the process, the students took on a hands-on role. Student groups made multiple visits to the school to measure the room, create sketches, and develop a layout.

Working with the school's principal, the NSBE club members built two workbenches from scratch. The Art club then decorated the tops of the benches with original artwork. After moving the workbenches into the room, the students completed the transformation by decorating with items purchased with the grant, including a bookshelf, utility carts, a rug, bean bags, a whiteboard, a wall calendar, and lights. The final space now features dedicated corners for reading, tutoring, arts and crafts, and games. This thoughtful layout offers students a break from their standard classroom experience.
