The West Catholic Prep Green Savers
Innovation Award, Second Place: $10,000

The West Catholic Prep Green Savers launched a project to nourish, educate, and beautify their community. The students focused on growing fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers to address food insecurity. Inspired by the club's founder, who noticed a lack of fresh produce during homeless outreach, the club set out to apply its knowledge of agriculture to find real-world solutions.

The project successfully brought greenery to an area with little plant life, planting herbs and flowers in the school's courtyard and planters. The students also initiated a partnership with Martha's Community Farm. This nonprofit organization grows food to donate to local pantries, helping to provide fresh produce to those in need due to food insecurity. The project's impact extended beyond gardening: students are now collaborating with their engineering teacher to build a community "gardening shed," which will be decorated by the art club and will provide supplies and educational materials for the community to learn about gardening.
